About Counselling

What happens in Counselling?

I predominantly work with a Person-Centred Counselling approach.

What this means is: â€‹at the heart of our Counselling work is you.

Working in a person-centred way means I believe that you are the expert in yourself. As your counsellor, I provide you with the safe space to be your authentic self and to explore what it is you bring into counselling. You will be in a non-judgemental space, treated with equality, fairness and empathy.

Alongside my person-centred approach, I use my psychology skills within this to enable our work together. I may also use aspects of other modalities as and when needed, such as; CBT, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Existential and Adlerian Counselling. I work with the Inner Child, too.

Drawing on various approaches where appropriate, allows for deeper, explorative questions, and gentle challenges, whilst ensuring the counselling is uniquely tailored to you.

Together, we will work to explore and untangle what may be on the surface, but we may also work together to explore what may be hiding underneath. The pace of counselling will be yours, but with some gentle challenging from myself. Counselling is unique for everyone, and everyone's paths are different, which is the beauty of the Person Centred Counselling approach.

We can also explore coping mechanisms to deal with daily life stressors and triggers, and work together to add to your own resources and confidence within this. We will work and find ways of being able to handle and cope with life's difficult occurrences, emotions and situations. The counselling space will always be your safe space, and you will be given the time to be listened to, heard, and to explore your emotions and thoughts without fear of repercussions or judgement.

Working together, we can help you develop and learn skills to take away from counselling to use in various aspects of life.
